Zwickau is after Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz with 100 000 thousand people the fourth biggest city in Saxony. The composer Robert Schumann (1810-1856) lived in Zwickau. Today the Robert Schumann competition is an international competition for choir and pianist. Zwickau-Chemnitz is one of the biggest industrial zone in east Germany.
The most people know Zwickau for the car industry since nearly 100 years. The largest company is VW with 5880 employees in 2002, every day 1150 cars go into production.
At the beginning of the 20th century the world-renowned companies Horch and Audi were founded from August Horch. But the most famous car were the “Trabi” it was produced from 1958-1991 and today you can find trabis all around the world in museums.
